As I begin to write to welcome you to my blog, there was a special person that came to my mind, that I often think about but don't communicate how much i think of him. This man has only been in my life for about four years, but the impact that he has made has made it feel so much longer. This man serves our country right now in Afghanistan while flying Chinook helicopters! He is a man of gold that I have so much love and respect for. The person that I am speaking of is my oldest sister's husband, Jeff.
Jeff has been serving in Afghanistan since August of 2009. I love to think about all the great things that he has done for me and our country! But I also love the way that he makes my sister feel so loved. Throughout this year that he has been away, my sister and I have become closer than ever. We have spent many hours on the phone talking about life, love, hope, and faith. My sister has been so strong throughout this whole process and has grown even more in love with her husband, family and God. Through this time, Jeff and my sister have seen God be so faithful in giving each of them love and comfort through such a difficult time! As I sit back and watch all that has come to be throughout the year, I think of how promising love really is! True love, that is!
Though the situation of Jeff getting deployed was not the happiest time to many of us, I am glad to be able to say, that through this time, I myself have learned so much through their love, God's love and faithfulness! I pray everyday that God will send our soilder home to us! Safe and soon!

  1. How inspiring! Like you, I am come from a very close family and can't imagine how hard it would be to be apart from someone in my family for such a long period of time. As someone whose sister is engaged to a man in the military, it is wonderful to hear that it actually is possible to make something good out of something as difficult as a deployment. I have so much respect for all of our troops serving everywhere around the world, but know how much more difficult it would be for them if they didn't have wonderful people (like your sister and the rest of your family) lovingly waiting here in the States for the day they come home!

  2. I have a cousin that is currently working in Afghanistan. He has already served his time, but he was needed to continue work on special opps. so there he stays! He won't be returning home until November and has been gone off and on for 5 years. Sheldon is married with 3 kids and we all still communicate using facebook, but it is very overwhelming and difficult all the while. We pray for him daily and I will pray for your family as well!

  3. OK Kristina,
You are obviously ahead of the learning curve when it comes to setting up a blog. You may have classmates (or your instructor) asking you for advice!

    Dr. Tunks,
I love technology, but there is not too much to my blog! :)
